Frequently Asked Questions about Israel Visa

What do I do if I do not satisfy the requirements for applying online?

If you do not satisfy the requirements for applying ETA online, please apply through a travel agent, airline or an Israel visa office. If you are not available for an ETA VISA, you can still apply for another electronic visiting visa.

What can I do if I make a mistake in my application?

It is important that you are very careful when you enter your personal details. You will have an opportunity to review all the details you have provided and can change the details at any time until you confirm all details as correct.

If you have made an error, it is important that you correct it before proceeding. Once you have confirmed the details, your credit card will be debited for the non-refundable service charge.

If you find out later that you have made a mistake, you will need to make a new application (and incur another service charge). We cannot change the details on an ETA once it has been issued.

Note: If your ETA details do not match your passport details you might experience delays when boarding your aircraft or be refused entry into Israel.

Do I need a plane ticket before purchasing an ETA?

No. You do not need to arrange your transportation into the country before applying for an ETA. Whether you are traveling by boat or plane, it’s okay to apply for your ETA anytime before or after your confirmed ticket.

What documents do I need to travel to Israel?

For U.S. and Canadian citizens, all you need is a passport that’s valid at least six months longer than your date of arrival in Israel. (For stays up to three months, you don’t need a visa.) If you’re not the U.S. or Canadian citizen, the same conditions apply to citizens of most western countries.

What to wear?

Almost everywhere in the world, casual is the “rule” for everyday sightseeing. Bring good walking shoes or sneakers and “layers.” Israelis (especially women) like to be “elegant casual” on evenings in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Some religious shrines require modest dress (arms and legs covered, and, occasionally, no pants for women). Don’t forget your swimsuit and, for the Dead Sea, plastic shoes.

Quarantine

  • Quarantine for vaccinated travelers is 24 hours or until receipt of a negative PCR, the earlier of the two.
  • Unvaccinated/non-recovered passengers (Israelis or foreigners with special entry permits) must quarantine for 14 days. This may be shortened to 7 days with a negative PCR test on the first and seventh days.
  • Quarantine hotels have been abolished; travelers may quarantine in their own homes.

Business Travel Requirements for an Israel Visa for Swiss Citizens

  • Visa-exempt for a stay of up to three months. The traveler must:
  • Hold a passport valid at least six months on entry with one blank visa page
  • Hold proof of sufficient funds
  • Hold proof of onward/return flights
  • Hold all documents required for the next destination

Proof of Vaccination/Recovery

Passengers, who are vaccinated or recovered abroad or in Israel, should bring their vaccination record/digital recovery with them to present if asked.

Do I need an Israel visa?

All US Citizens require a visa and a US passport to travel to Israel, whether for business or tourism.  MOST foreign nationals require a visa.  We can help you to obtain a visa as well as a US passport.

When is the best time to travel to Israel?

The best time to visit Israel is either between April and May or between October and November as this is when temperatures are warm and not too hot throughout the country.

What currency is used in Israel?

The currency used throughout the country is the Israeli new shekel. MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted. ATMs are commonplace in Israel, dispensing local currency.

Can I include my family members on my ETA application?

No. If you have a family member, you will have to apply for an application. Even if your child is traveling under your passport, they will need their own application.

Can my children (dependants) travel on my e-Visa?

Yes, kindly use his/her ID information alongside your personal information when completing the online application form. Please use your child’s (dependants) identification data requested at the time of completion when adding another traveler to your application. There are no exceptions regarding age.

WHAT IF I HAVE A VISA BUT I’M REFUSED ENTRY TO ISRAEL?

It is possible for Israeli border control officials to refuse entry to Israel to an individual. Sometimes, this is due to the fact a person needed to acquire a visa to Israel prior to coming to the country. However, other times, even if one has a visa, individuals can be denied entry due to suspicion of a security threat, a previous illegal stay in the country, or some sort of danger to the Israeli public. The Israeli border control officers may suspect illegal immigration or abuse of the visa to visit Israel for the purpose of illegal work. If you have been refused entry to Israel, it is imperative to take immediate legal action to avoid imminent deportation.

Is it safe to travel to Israel?

We wouldn’t urge you to come if it wasn’t. Every year between 3 and 4 million tourists vacation in Israel – and apart from those who fall in love with an Israeli – or with Israel – they all go home again safe and sound. The planes of 90+ airlines wouldn’t fly to Israel if it weren’t safe.

WHAT ABOUT MONEY?

The Israeli currency is the Shekel (officially “New Israeli Shekel”), worth around 30 cents. On arrival in Israel, it’s a good idea to use your bank card to withdraw some Shekels from the ATM in the arrival halls at Ben Groin – or change small amounts of dollars/or travelers’ checks at a bank or your hotel. There are ATM machines all over Israel and credit cards are widely accepted.

Leaving Israel

  • Travelers leaving Israel who are not considered vaccinated/recovered by Israeli standards must present a negative PCR result, taken within 72 hours of departure.
  • Travelers who are vaccinated/recovered by Israeli standards are exempt from this requirement. However, they may need negative Covid tests as required by their destination countries.

For instance, the US requires a negative PCR or antigen test for all incoming passengers. This must be taken within one calendar day of departure. For

  • example, if traveling on Monza Shabbats, one may test on Friday. However, if traveling early Sunday morning, the test must be performed after Shabbats ends.
  • Recently recovered patients are exempt from the US requirement. They must present a positive PCR/NAAT test taken within the last ninety days in addition to a recovery letter from a doctor.

Tourist Travel Requirements for an Israel Visa for Swiss Citizens

  • Hold a passport valid at least six months on entry with one blank visa page
  • Hold proof of sufficient funds
  • Hold proof of onward/return flights
  • Hold all documents required for the next destination

How long does it take to obtain an Israel visa?

Typically, a visa takes anywhere from 2 days to 15+ days to process in the Israel Embassy/Consulate depending on the consulate that we need to send the application. The processing time for a visa is dependent on several factors and can change without notice at the consulate’s discretion. Please refer to our service selection page for the most up-to-date processing times for Israel visas.

Do I need a visa and passport to travel to Israel?

A visa is not required when travelling from Canada or the United States as a tourist for up to 90 days. A valid passport is mandatory. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you expect to leave Israel.

What language is spoken in Israel?

English is widely spoken throughout the country. However, it is not to be assumed every resident you meet will be able to converse in the language.
