Frequently Asked Questions about Croatia Visa

What do I do if I do not satisfy the requirements for applying online?

If you do not satisfy the requirements for applying ETA online, please apply through a travel agent, airline, or a Croatia visa office. If you are not available for an ETA VISA, you can still apply for another electronic visiting visa.

What can I do if I make a mistake in my application?

It is important that you are very careful when you enter your personal details. You will have an opportunity to review all the details you have provided and can change the details at any time until you confirm all details as correct.

If you have made an error, it is important that you correct it before proceeding. Once you have confirmed the details, your credit card will be debited for the non-refundable service charge.

If you find out later that you have made a mistake, you will need to make a new application (and incur another service charge). We cannot change the details on an ETA once it has been issued.

Note: If your ETA details do not match your passport details you might experience delays when boarding your aircraft or be refused entry into Croatia.

Do I need a plane ticket before purchasing an ETA?

No. You do not need to arrange your transportation into the country before applying for an ETA. Whether you are traveling by boat or plane, it’s okay to apply for your ETA anytime before or after your confirmed ticket.

  • Croatia Work Visa, which allows you to live and work in Croatia. You must already have a Croatian employer before you apply for a visa as well as a work permit, which your employer has to obtain for you in Croatia. You cannot get a temporary residence permit in Croatia if you do not have a valid work permit.
  • Croatia Student Visa is issued to foreign nationals who want to pursue their studies in a Croatian educational institution. Before you get a Croatia Student Visa, you must be enrolled in a Croatian educational institution.
  • Croatia Family Visa is for non-EU family members of Croatian citizens or legal residents who wish to join their family members in Croatia.

The requirements for a Croatia business visa are:

  • Letter from your employer stating your position in the company, your salary, and the intended time you will be absent from work and that you are taking this trip for business (if applicable)
  • Cover letter, written by you who explain the purpose and duration of your trip.
  • If self-employed: Your company’s registration papers and a business visa request letter which is written on paper with the company’s official letterhead.
  • Proof of financial funds. Either in the form of your own personal bank statements or an alternate method if someone else is funding your trip (such as your employer/the inviting company).

Can you Travel to the Schengen Area with a Croatia visa?

No, since Croatia is not yet part of Schengen, Croatian visas do not give you the right to enter a Schengen country. If you have a Croatian visa, you can only visit Croatia as well as Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Romania under the conditions of Decision No 565/2014/EU of the European Parliament.

What is the difference between a passport and a Croatia visa?

A passport is an official government document that certifies one’s identity and citizenship.  The passport serves two purposes; to regain entry to the country of citizenship (i.e. the United States) and is a requirement by many countries to gain entry to the country you are visiting. A Croatia visa is an official government document that temporarily authorizes you to be in the country.  Many countries require a visa to gain entry.  The Croatia visa is in the form of a stamp/sticker IN the passport and is obtained from a Croatia Embassy in Washington DC or consulates around the country.  We have staff spread around the country to hand carry your application for you and then overnight the passport back when it is completed.

What is a Croatia Visa?

A Croatia visa is a stamp or endorsement placed by officials of Croatia on a passport that allows the bearer to visit Croatia.  Visas are obtained from the Embassy or consulates of Croatia for your visit.  “Visit” is further defined as the reason for entry, usually business, tourist, or transitory.  There are over 270 countries that offer visas and literally thousands of different types of visas available based upon country, type of visit, and length of visit.
